West Ham United F.C. are on the verge of completing the signing of Gustavo Sá from F.C. Famalicão after reaching an agreement on a deal worth around €20 million (£17.3m). Reports indicate the transfer has now been settled, with the 21-year-old expected to begin the next chapter of his career in England.

Although Famalicão were initially hoping to secure closer to €25 million, the agreed fee will still set a new club-record sale, surpassing the amount generated from the transfer of Manuel Ugarte.

Sá has been with Famalicão since joining the academy in 2018 and developed into one of the club’s most reliable first-team players.

During his time with the senior side, he featured in 120 matches, scoring 12 goals and registering 15 assists. He also became the youngest footballer to reach 100 Primeira Liga appearances, highlighting his rapid rise and consistency.

The Portugal Under-21 international impressed again last season with his creativity, versatility and energy in midfield, attracting attention from clubs across Europe. Interest from Manchester City F.C. and Juventus F.C. had previously been reported before West Ham stepped up their pursuit.

Sá is now set to experience football outside Portugal for the first time by joining a West Ham side preparing for life in the Championship following relegation.

Despite dropping into the second tier, the London club’s willingness to invest €20 million underlines the faith they have in the young midfielder and the important role they expect him to play in their bid to earn an immediate return to the Premier League.
