Major Edson Álvarez update as West Ham captain makes future decision
Edson Álvarez is unlikely to have boosted his transfer prospects after Mexico’s entertaining Round of 16 defeat to England at the World Cup. The Mexican captain came off the bench in the second half, but one of the game’s key moments saw him fail to deal with a high ball, a mistake that played a part in England scoring their third goal and quickly attracted attention online.

Despite that setback, reports suggest Álvarez has accepted that his future is likely to be away from West Ham United F.C.after spending the second half of last season on loan at Fenerbahçe S.K..
After being allowed to leave on loan under former manager Graham Potter, there has been little expectation that he would return to play a major role under the club’s current plans. Many West Ham supporters believe the midfielder has struggled to recapture the form he showed when he first arrived in 2023, with injuries and disciplinary issues affecting his time in east London.
Although the 27-year-old has regained full fitness following a lengthy ankle injury, his latest international outing is unlikely to have strengthened interest from clubs weighing up a move during the summer transfer window.
