Rangers linked with Angus Gunn as fresh questions emerge over Jack Butland future

Rangers have been tipped to consider a summer move for Angus Gunn as fresh doubts continue to surround Jack Butland’s long-term future at Ibrox.

The Scotland international endured a frustrating first season at Nottingham Forest following his move last summer, making just one appearance for the Premier League side. However, with the World Cup on the horizon, Gunn is expected to prioritise regular football as he looks to strengthen his case for the Scotland number one shirt under Steve Clarke.

While Craig Gordon has remained a trusted figure throughout qualification and could still be first choice heading into the tournament, Gunn’s lack of club minutes may force him into considering a fresh start this summer.

That has prompted speculation over a possible switch to Rangers, with Keith Jackson suggesting Ibrox could be an attractive destination should Jack Butland move on. The Rangers goalkeeper has faced increased scrutiny after a difficult spell marked by inconsistent performances, leaving question marks over whether he remains the long-term answer between the posts.

New goalkeeper options have already been linked with the Light Blues, including Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson, but Gunn could soon emerge as another name in the frame for Danny Röhl’s side.

Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live, Jackson suggested a move to Rangers could suit all parties, particularly with Gunn needing regular football to reignite his career and cement his international ambitions.

Despite limited action at club level, Gunn has still shown encouraging signs for Scotland, including a clean sheet against Bolivia in his most recent outing. The 30-year-old’s experience and desire to prove a point after a difficult year could make him an intriguing option if Rangers decide to reshape their goalkeeping department this summer.

There may be understandable concerns given his lack of game time, but a move to Ibrox could offer Gunn the platform to rebuild momentum while giving Rangers a dependable option should changes be made in goal.
