New Kilmarnock update puts focus on Celtic’s upcoming fixture situation
Celtic’s first away trip of the new Premiership season is attracting extra interest after Kilmarnock confirmed they will play two of their Premier Sports Cup home fixtures away from Rugby Park.
The Ayrshire side are currently in the middle of major redevelopment work on their pitch, replacing the long-standing artificial surface with a hybrid grass system ahead of the new campaign. As a result, their upcoming group-stage cup matches against Raith Rovers and Hamilton Academical have been switched to Beechwood Park in Auchinleck.
While there has been no indication that Celtic’s league clash on August 9 is under threat, the update has naturally raised questions given the close timing between those cup fixtures and the Hoops’ scheduled visit.

Kilmarnock remain confident the work will be completed in time for the Premiership season, but the temporary relocation of July matches highlights the scale of the project still ongoing behind the scenes.
For Celtic, the change could bring a different challenge at Rugby Park. The venue has often proved difficult in recent years, with the artificial surface frequently a talking point. A move to hybrid grass may offer a different experience for Brendan Rodgers’ side when they make the trip.
The Scottish champions begin their title defence at home against Dundee before travelling to Ayrshire the following weekend, where all eyes will be on the condition of the newly upgraded pitch.
