Nathan Jones fumes after Tyreece Campbell goal is ruled out against QPR

Charlton manager Nathan Jones was left furious after Tyreece Campbell’s goal was ruled out for offside during his side’s 0-0 draw with QPR, insisting the decision denied his team all three points.

Charlton appeared to have taken the lead in the 39th minute when Campbell finished off a quick counter-attack after receiving a through ball from Oliver Skipp. However, the assistant referee raised his flag for offside before the Jamaica international could celebrate.

The decision became the major talking point of a game that produced very few clear chances. QPR goalkeeper Pierce Charles was not seriously tested, while Charlton’s Arthur Okonkwo had to make an important save from Paul Smyth shortly after the hour mark.

With VAR unavailable in the Championship, there was no opportunity for the decision to be reviewed during the match. Replays also failed to provide a conclusive answer over whether Campbell had been offside.

Jones was adamant that the goal should have stood and made his frustration clear after the final whistle.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Charlton boss argued that his side had scored the only goal that mattered and believed the officials had cost them victory.

Jones was particularly unhappy with the assistant referee’s reaction when he questioned the decision, describing his manner as arrogant and using the unusual comparison that the linesman looked at him as though he had “volleyed his cat.”

The Charlton manager admitted his team could have been better in possession but praised his players for their defensive effort and character against a strong QPR side.

He also expressed frustration at the hectic Championship schedule, arguing that the demanding fixture list was contributing to injuries and preventing managers from consistently selecting their strongest teams.

Jones said the packed schedule was not helping produce the best football because clubs were frequently forced to cope without key players.

Despite the frustrations, Charlton remain among the leading sides in the Championship after the draw, with Jones insisting he was proud of the performance his players produced.
