Former Stoke winger Sorba Thomas involved in crash as club responds

Hull City have confirmed that Sorba Thomas escaped without injury after being involved in a road traffic accident near the club’s Cottingham training ground on Friday morning.

Images shared on social media appeared to show the former Stoke City winger’s £160,000 Land Rover Defender overturned on Millhouse Wood Lane.

In a statement, Hull City reassured supporters that the 27-year-old was safe.

“ Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground,” the club said.

“The club is aware of images of Sorba’s car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed.”

Humberside Police also confirmed that emergency services were responding to a collision in the area.

“Officers and emergency services are currently in attendance following reports of a road traffic collision on Millhouse Woods Lane, Cottingham at around 9am on Friday, 11 September 2026,” police said.

“The road remains closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area to allow emergency services to operate effectively.”

Thomas completed a £10.5million transfer from Stoke City to Hull on September 1, making the move after 14 months at the bet365 Stadium. He made his Hull debut as a substitute in a goalless Premier League draw with Aston Villa before starting in Tuesday’s 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat against Sunderland.

The Wales international joined Stoke from Huddersfield Town in 2025 and enjoyed an impressive spell with the club, recording 10 goals and 13 assists in 47 appearances.

Hull had pursued Thomas throughout the summer, and the winger expressed his appreciation to Stoke following his departure.

“Thank you Stoke City for giving me the platform to thrive and entertain. Good luck for the future and I’m sure we’ll meet again one day,” he wrote on social media.

Stoke sporting director Jon Walters also acknowledged the circumstances behind the transfer, explaining that Thomas had been given an opportunity to play in the Premier League — an ambition he had made clear in the days before the move.

“We all thank him for his efforts last season and wish him well for the future,” Walters said.

It remains uncertain whether Thomas will be available for Hull City’s upcoming trip to Chelsea, with the club’s manager Sergej Jakirovic yet to clarify whether the winger will travel with the squad following the accident.
