Frank Lampard laments penalty decision while admitting lessons from Coventry’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday
Coventry City boss Frank Lampard expressed frustration after his side were denied a second-half penalty during their 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday.
The Sky Blues felt they should have been awarded a spot-kick when a second-half cross from the right appeared to strike Tayo Adaramola’s arm.

In a match where Coventry were pushing hard for a breakthrough that could have brought them closer to promotion, they dominated much of the second half but were repeatedly frustrated by Wednesday’s disciplined defending.
The Owls stood firm throughout, clearing everything that came into their box and holding out under sustained pressure. However, Lampard believed his team deserved a penalty to help decide the tight contest, adding to what he described as a run of decisions going against his side.
Looking ahead, Lampard still remains optimistic about Coventry’s promotion push, with just a few points needed from their remaining games. He admitted his side had done enough to win the match, but praised Wednesday’s organisation and determination.
“They made it very difficult,” he said, acknowledging that while Coventry created chances and controlled possession, they were unable to find a way past a well-drilled opposition side determined to frustrate them.
