Celtic step up transfer plans as contract talks eyed for in-demand forward
Celtic have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of FC Aarau striker Elias Filet as the club look to move quickly in the race for the prolific forward.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a standout campaign in Switzerland’s Challenge League, scoring 20 goals in 34 appearances and earning Player of the Season recognition.

His impressive form has sparked growing interest across Europe, with Belgian side Genk and French outfit Lorient already holding formal discussions over a potential move.
Despite strong competition, Celtic are said to have accelerated their efforts in a bid to gain an advantage. According to reports in Switzerland, the Hoops recently held a video conference with Filet’s representatives and are now prioritising an agreement on personal terms before opening official talks with FC Aarau.
The strategy could allow Celtic to take an early lead in the transfer race, even though Genk are believed to currently hold an advantage after already submitting an offer. Lorient are also expected to intensify their interest with a formal proposal of their own.
Filet, who is contracted to Aarau until 2027, has developed into one of the most effective forwards in the Swiss second tier. Standing at 6ft 1in, the French-Martinican striker combines physical presence with strong aerial ability and a sharp eye for goal, making him an attractive option for clubs seeking attacking reinforcements.
Celtic’s interest comes at a time when the club are expected to strengthen their frontline ahead of another demanding campaign, including a crucial Champions League play-off. Several loan forwards have already returned to their parent clubs, while uncertainty continues to surround Kelechi Iheanacho’s future, leaving Daizen Maeda and Johnny Kenny as the only recognised natural strikers currently in the squad.
With a new era under Martin O’Neill nearing confirmation, Celtic appear determined to move swiftly as they reshape their attacking options for next season.
