Callum McGregor names his pick for next Celtic F.C. manager
Callum McGregor has made his stance clear on Martin O’Neill, backing the experienced boss to remain in charge of Celtic F.C. beyond this season after what he described as an outstanding impact.
O’Neill returned from retirement earlier in the campaign to steady the club during a turbulent period, initially stepping in after Brendan Rodgers’ departure.

Although he briefly stepped aside following the appointment of Wilfried Nancy, he was quickly brought back after Nancy’s short-lived spell ended. Since then, the veteran manager has been credited with restoring stability and guiding Celtic back into contention on multiple fronts.
Under his leadership, the team has improved steadily, both in performances and results, despite a disrupted start to the season. Celtic now find themselves chasing the league title while also preparing for a Scottish Cup final, giving them a realistic shot at ending the campaign with major silverware.
McGregor emphasised that O’Neill’s influence has gone beyond just results, highlighting how he has reunited a squad that had previously looked unsettled. The captain believes the manager has consistently found ways to get the best out of the players and deserves significant recognition for turning things around.
Importantly, McGregor also revealed that the dressing room is fully behind O’Neill and his coaching staff, including Shaun Maloney, Mark Fotheringham, Gavin Strachan and Stephen McManus. He suggested that the squad would strongly support the idea of continuing under the same leadership next season.
While Celtic are not currently favourites for the league title, McGregor remains confident in the team’s chances. From his perspective, the belief within the squad, combined with the progress made in difficult circumstances, gives them a real opportunity to finish the season strongly.
He acknowledged the challenge posed by rivals but insisted that Celtic’s focus remains on winning their remaining matches and maintaining the mentality needed to compete at the highest level.
With a cup final on the horizon and the title race still open, McGregor is convinced the team has what it takes to deliver a successful end to the campaign under O’Neill.
