Wrexham Eyeing Unexpected £4.5m Deal for Leeds United Ace

Leeds United have enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, adding three impressive players in Harry Wilson, Tarik Muharemovic and James Trafford.

The Whites acted quickly to secure Wilson on a free transfer despite competition from clubs in England and across Europe. They then invested £34 million in Muharemovic, who arrived from Sassuolo after attracting interest from several other sides.

Leeds also broke their club-record transfer fee by paying £45 million for England goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City. With that major piece of business completed, the club can now focus on reducing the size of Daniel Farke’s squad and finding new destinations for players who are no longer part of his plans.

Wrexham show interest in Leeds forward

Wrexham are keen to strengthen their squad once again after narrowly missing out on the Championship play-offs last season.

The Welsh club are targeting players with experience at this level as they look to mount another promotion challenge in 2026/27.

Joe Gelhardt is reportedly one of the players who has caught Wrexham’s attention. The Leeds forward impressed during his loan spell at Hull City last season, scoring 14 goals and helping the Tigers secure promotion to the Premier League.

Hull have been linked with the possibility of bringing Gelhardt back to the MKM Stadium, although their recruitment priorities appear to lie elsewhere at present.

That could open the door for Wrexham to make their move. The club are reportedly prepared to offer around £4.5 millionfor the striker as they look to bring him to Wales.

Gelhardt could be an ideal fit for Wrexham

Gelhardt demonstrated his ability to perform consistently in the Championship during his time with Hull. His goals played an important role in their promotion campaign, making him an attractive option for a Wrexham side with similar ambitions.

The Welsh club’s ambitious ownership group are determined to establish Wrexham among the Championship’s leading teams and ultimately reach the Premier League. Gelhardt could fit perfectly into that project, having already shown that he can thrive when given significant responsibility in an ambitious team.

From Leeds’ perspective, moving the forward on would also make sense. Gelhardt appears to be outside Farke’s plans at Elland Road, meaning a permanent transfer could benefit all parties.

With Wrexham reportedly willing to spend around £4.5m, the proposed move could provide Gelhardt with another opportunity to become a key player in the Championship while allowing Leeds to move on a player who no longer features prominently in their plans.
