Mika Baur Celtic transfer delay explained as key reason emerges
Reason behind Mika Baur’s Celtic transfer delay explained
Celtic remain interested in Mika Baur, but their hopes of bringing the midfielder to Glasgow this summer have been held up by a disagreement over the transfer fee.
The German Under-21 international has been on Celtic’s radar for some time as Martin O’Neill looks to add more options to his midfield. The Hoops have not abandoned their pursuit, despite Paderborn taking a firm stance on the future of the 22-year-old.

Personal terms are understood to have already been agreed with Baur, meaning the main obstacle is now negotiations between the two clubs.
Baur is entering the final year of his contract with Paderborn, a situation that could normally work in Celtic’s favour. However, the German club are reportedly unwilling to let him leave for a fee they consider below his value.
Paderborn are therefore prepared to keep Baur for the upcoming season rather than accept Celtic’s current proposal. That stance could eventually prove risky for the German side, with the midfielder potentially able to leave when his contract expires next summer without Paderborn receiving a transfer fee.
For Celtic, the situation leaves them weighing up their next move. The Scottish champions can either meet Paderborn’s valuation or remain patient in the hope that the club becomes more willing to negotiate as the transfer window progresses.
The fact that Baur is already believed to have agreed personal terms with Celtic means there would be one fewer hurdle to overcome if an agreement between the clubs can be reached.
Celtic are continuing to explore their options in midfield, with their recruitment plans also influenced by ongoing interest in Arne Engels.
Baur remains one of the players under consideration, but his potential move to Glasgow is currently dependent on Paderborn changing their position over the fee.
With the midfielder approaching the final year of his contract, Celtic will have to decide whether to push ahead with a deal now or wait and see if the German club eventually lowers its demands.
