Wolves and Coventry City interested in Sunderland star who secured three promotions
Dan Neil is reportedly attracting strong interest ahead of the summer transfer window, with Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. and Coventry City F.C. both said to be monitoring the midfielder’s situation.
The Sunderland academy graduate is expected to leave Sunderland A.F.C. when his contract expires at the end of the season, bringing his lengthy connection with the club to a close. A lifelong Sunderland supporter from South Shields, Neil progressed through the club’s youth system after beginning his football journey with Hebburn Town Juniors.

The 24-year-old spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Ipswich Town F.C., where he played a key role in helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League.
That achievement added another chapter to an impressive record, with Neil now having been involved in three promotion-winning campaigns during his career. He previously helped Sunderland climb from EFL League One back to the Premier League.
Neil first made his senior appearance for Sunderland in the EFL Trophy in 2018 before scoring his first professional goal in a victory over Accrington Stanley F.C. three years later.
Widely regarded as one of Sunderland’s standout academy products in recent years, his breakthrough performances also earned him the EFL Young Player of the Month award in December 2021.
Earlier in his career, he attracted transfer interest from clubs including Burnley F.C. and Aston Villa F.C., but remained at the Stadium of Light.
Now, with his Sunderland exit approaching, fresh interest is beginning to build once again ahead of a potentially significant summer move.
