Why Rangers vs St Mirren was postponed

Rangers have no Scottish Premiership fixture this weekend because their home clash with St Mirren, originally scheduled for Saturday, August 22, has been postponed due to their European commitments.

The Ibrox side are competing in the UEFA Conference League play-off round. Rangers hosted Jablonec in the first leg on Thursday, August 20, securing a 1-0 victory, before travelling to the Czech Republic for the second leg on Thursday, August 27.

Scottish clubs involved in European play-off ties are permitted to request the postponement of domestic fixtures to give them additional preparation and recovery time. Rangers exercised that option, resulting in the St Mirren match being moved.

The rearranged fixture could potentially be played between Rangers’ two Scottish Premiership meetings with Celtic in September, although that has not yet been confirmed.

The new date is expected to be announced once the UEFA qualifying rounds conclude next week.
