Camilo Duran faces Colombia debut delay after visa paperwork problem

Camilo Duran’s wait for his first Colombia appearance could last a little longer after the Celtic forward was held up by an issue involving his travel documents.

The 20-year-old was handed his first senior international call-up for Colombia’s upcoming friendly fixtures in the United States, with games against Mexico, Paraguay and Peru scheduled during the current international window.

However, while the rest of the squad gathered earlier this week, Duran has been unable to make the trip because of outstanding administrative requirements relating to his visa and passport.

Colombia head coach Nestor Lorenzo confirmed the situation and admitted the national team are hoping the matter can be resolved before their opening fixture against Mexico in Baltimore.

“Duran has unfortunately not been able to join the group yet,” Lorenzo explained.

“He has had an issue with the paperwork required for his visa and passport to travel.”

The Colombia boss remains hopeful that the Celtic forward will eventually make it to the United States in time to feature during the international break, even if he misses the first match.

“We hope it can be sorted for the first game, and if that isn’t possible, then hopefully for one of the other matches,” Lorenzo added.

Lorenzo also outlined why Duran was selected for the squad, highlighting the versatility the Celtic attacker could offer.

The forward is capable of operating on either flank but can also play through the middle as a No.9, giving Colombia another option in attack.

“He is a player who can help us in several positions,” Lorenzo said. “He can play on both wings, but he also has the qualities to finish and play as a No.9. That makes him a versatile player for us.”

Duran’s travel difficulties had already affected his availability for Celtic, with Martin O’Neill previously revealing that the forward had travelled to London while attempting to resolve the visa situation.

The Celtic attacker will now hope the remaining paperwork can be completed quickly enough to give him an opportunity to make his long-awaited Colombia debut.
