What the press said about Alistair Johnston after Canada’s World Cup exit
Canada men’s national soccer team saw their 2026 World Cup campaign come to an end after a 3-0 defeat to Morocco national football team in the Round of 16 on Saturday.
Alistair Johnston featured for the entire match, but the Celtic F.C. defender was unable to stop Morocco’s clinical attack from securing victory. The result made Canada the first of the tournament’s three host nations to be eliminated, while Morocco booked their place in the quarter-finals.

Despite the scoreline, media assessments suggested Johnston produced a respectable individual display. The right-back started every match for Canada during the competition and remained a regular presence throughout their World Cup run.
With Canada’s campaign now over, Johnston is expected to return to Celtic as preparations begin for the 2026/27 season.
