West Ham Consider £10m Midfield Target Amid Burnley and Wolves Interest

West Ham United could become increasingly active as the summer transfer window approaches its final stages, with the club reportedly monitoring a midfielder who has also attracted strong interest from Championship promotion hopefuls Burnley and Wolves.

The Hammers have had to make several important changes following their relegation from the Premier League last season. So far, Joel Veltman has been their only senior arrival, joining on a free transfer and offering defensive experience and versatility.

However, West Ham’s recruitment plans are now beginning to gather momentum. The club have agreed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur for Manor Solomon, with the winger expected to move for an initial £5 million, plus a possible £2 million in add-ons. His arrival should help fill the creative void left by Crysencio Summerville.

Despite strengthening out wide, West Ham still have other areas to address. A new striker remains one of their priorities, with Troy Parrott being considered after his impressive spell with AZ Alkmaar. Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor is another name on their radar, although competition for his signature could come from Premier League clubs.

Midfield is another position the Hammers are looking to improve. They have already agreed personal terms with Celtic’s Arne Engels, but negotiations with the Scottish champions have yet to produce an agreement. That has encouraged West Ham to explore alternative options.

Jordan James emerges as an alternative

According to reporter Alan Nixon, as relayed by Football League World, Rennes midfielder Jordan James has emerged as one potential alternative.

The Wales international is reportedly valued at around £10 million, which could make him a more affordable option than Engels. However, West Ham would face significant competition if they decide to step up their interest.

Burnley, Wolves and Middlesbrough are all understood to be monitoring James, meaning the Hammers could find themselves in a competitive transfer race.

James’ growing reputation is largely down to his impressive loan campaign with Leicester City last season. Although Leicester endured a difficult campaign and were eventually relegated to League One, the midfielder was one of the standout performers in an otherwise disappointing season.

The 21-year-old finished the Championship campaign with 11 goals and four assists in 34 appearances, form that earned him the Championship Young Player of the Season award.

For West Ham, James could offer something different in midfield. Rather than simply operating as a passer or relying on shots from distance, he has developed a strong ability to make well-timed runs into the box and contribute directly to attacks.

Having developed through Birmingham City’s academy before moving to Rennes, James could now be on the verge of another career move. A return to English football may appeal to him, and West Ham could view the midfielder as their preferred alternative if they fail to reach an agreement for Engels.

With Burnley and Wolves also keen, however, West Ham may need to act quickly if they decide that James is the man they want.
