West Ham Step Up Piroe Pursuit

Leeds have reportedly placed a £16 million-plus add-ons valuation on striker Joel Piroe, a figure that initially appeared to put off potential buyers.

The 27-year-old remains one of the Championship’s most dangerous forwards, but the sizeable asking price has reportedly complicated efforts to find a suitable buyer. Piroe’s agent has even suggested that the valuation could force the striker to remain at Elland Road and potentially leave as a free agent when his contract expires next summer.

However, West Ham United’s interest has changed the situation.

The Hammers are determined to bounce straight back to the Premier League and have identified Piroe as a potential solution to their attacking needs. After previously pursuing Troy Parrott from AZ Alkmaar without success, West Ham have turned their attention towards the Leeds forward.

Reports indicate that the London club have now submitted a £15 million offer for Piroe. With the bid close to Leeds’ reported valuation, the two clubs could potentially be moving towards an agreement.

Rafael Leão Dream Move Faces Financial Obstacles

Leeds have also reportedly been linked with an ambitious move for AC Milan forward Rafael Leão.

The Portugal international is said to be considering a fresh challenge and has been linked with a possible move to the Premier League. Milan have reportedly made Leão available to a small group of interested clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United and Leeds.

The Italian club were initially believed to be seeking around £42 million, although negotiations have reportedly seen that figure fall into the region of £34.2m–£38.5m.

Leão would represent a spectacular addition to Leeds’ attack. The 27-year-old combines considerable physical strength with explosive pace, excellent close control and the ability to operate either centrally or from the wing.

His tendency to drift into central areas also makes him a significant threat around the penalty area. His production in recent seasons underlines that quality, with the forward reportedly registering 67 goals and 47 assists across his last five campaigns with Milan.

However, the transfer would still be extremely difficult for Leeds to finance.

Leão is reportedly earning around £165,000 per week, while previous reports have suggested he could seek a substantially higher salary. Matching his existing wages would already place considerable pressure on Leeds’ current wage structure, before even considering a potential increase.

Consequently, although the prospect of Leão arriving at Elland Road is hugely appealing, the financial requirements could ultimately make the deal unrealistic.

Elvedi Arrives as Bornauw Heads for Hamburg

Leeds have meanwhile strengthened their defence by agreeing a reported £6.8 million (€8m) deal for Nico Elvedi with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The 29-year-old Swiss centre-back has arrived in West Yorkshire and is expected to complete his medical before finalising the transfer.

The move will reunite Elvedi with Daniel Farke, who previously worked with the defender at Gladbach. His versatility and experience should give Leeds additional options at the back as they prepare for the new campaign.

Elvedi’s arrival also appears to pave the way for Sebastiaan Bornauw to leave the club on loan.

Bornauw is reportedly set to join Hamburg for the season, with the agreement including an option to buy worth approximately £5 million — close to the amount Leeds paid for the Belgian defender last summer.

There are, however, questions surrounding the financial structure of the loan.

Reports suggest Leeds could continue paying part of Bornauw’s £45,000-a-week salary during his time in Germany. A reported £1.3 million loan fee is also involved, meaning Hamburg appear to have secured relatively favourable terms.

Leeds Transfer Picture

The developments surrounding Piroe, Leão, Elvedi and Bornauw highlight the contrasting stages of Leeds’ transfer business.

Piroe could leave if West Ham’s £15m offer is accepted, while Leão remains a hugely ambitious target whose wages could prove prohibitive.

At the back, however, Leeds appear to have acted decisively by bringing in Elvedi, with Bornauw moving towards the exit.

The next few days could therefore be significant for Daniel Farke as Leeds continue reshaping their squad and balancing ambitious recruitment with the financial realities of the transfer market.
