West Bromwich Albion issue strong response after two-point deduction for breaching EFL financial rules
West Bromwich Albion have been handed an immediate two-point deduction after breaching the English Football League’s financial regulations.
The sanction leaves the club six points clear of the relegation zone with only two matches remaining, holding a superior goal difference over Oxford United in 22nd place.
The EFL’s financial unit determined that Albion exceeded the permitted £39 million losses across the three-year cycle ending in the 2024–25 season.
However, the club has strongly disputed the ruling, insisting it complied with Profitability and Sustainability rules and is considering an appeal.
