Transfer watch: Middlesbrough F.C. assess Oliver Skipp amid growing Hackney speculation
Oliver Skipp has been linked with a possible move to Middlesbrough F.C. this week as speculation grows over Hayden Hackney’s expected departure.
Reports have suggested Everton F.C. are closing in on a deal for Hackney, with Boro now assessing midfield options ahead of the new season.
While Skipp is admired by the club and known to key figures behind the scenes, he is not being viewed as a direct replacement for Hackney due to the differences in their playing styles. Skipp is seen more as a deeper, defensive midfielder rather than the attack-minded, energetic profile Hackney offers.

Another factor is valuation, with Leicester City F.C. reportedly asking for a fee that currently sits above what Middlesbrough are willing to pay.
Midfield remains one of Boro’s priority areas this summer, and with Hackney potentially heading out, multiple additions could be needed before the transfer window closes.
Despite mixed reactions from supporters, there is still strong belief within the club that Skipp could be a useful addition under the right conditions, especially given his age, experience and past success at Championship level.
