Transfer race brewing as Celtic push for midfielder ahead of Rangers
Celtic are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of a highly-rated midfielder who is also attracting interest from Scottish rivals Rangers, as preparations for a major summer overhaul gather pace at Parkhead.
Although the Hoops finished the season strongly, sealing another Scottish Premiership title with a 3-1 victory over Hearts on the final day, former striker Chris Sutton believes significant changes could be on the horizon.

Sutton recently claimed that as many as 10 first-team players could depart this summer, including several influential names. He pointed to the likely exits of key stars such as Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and potentially Arne Engels, all of whom have played major roles in Celtic’s recent success.
Engels is already being linked with interest from the Premier League, with Nottingham Forest reportedly monitoring the midfielder, while Hatate’s expected departure could leave Celtic in need of reinforcements in the middle of the park.
One player emerging as a potential target is ETO FC midfielder Milan Vitalis, who had recently been linked with Rangers. However, Celtic now appear ready to rival their Glasgow counterparts for the Hungarian international’s signature.
According to reports, the Hoops have been closely tracking Vitalis’ performances in Hungary and are now preparing to make their move. There is growing belief within the club that the versatile midfielder could adapt quickly to Scottish football and make an immediate impact at Celtic Park.
Competition for the 24-year-old’s services may not come solely from Rangers either, with Aberdeen also reportedly interested in securing a deal.
Vitalis has already earned praise at international level, with Hungary manager Marco Rossi previously highlighting the midfielder’s technical quality and flexibility. Rossi described him as a player capable of operating across midfield, praising his intelligence on the ball and tactical understanding.
As Celtic prepare for what could be a transformative summer, strengthening the midfield may become one of the club’s key priorities if several current stars move on.
