Talks underway as Coventry City F.C. chase emerging striker sensation likened to Viktor Gyokeres
Coventry City F.C. have reportedly opened talks over a sensational summer move for a striker being tipped as their next Viktor Gyökeres following promotion celebrations that are only just beginning to calm down.

While Ed Sheeran continued the party atmosphere around Ipswich Town F.C. and Frank Lampard reflected once again on his famous José Mourinho stories after guiding Coventry to promotion, attention is already rapidly shifting towards Premier League recruitment.
Recent history has shown just how crucial smart transfer business can be after promotion, with Sunderland A.F.C.previously using momentum from play-off success to establish themselves higher up the table.
Now Coventry appear determined to follow a similar blueprint.
One experienced name already linked with the Sky Blues is Ross Barkley, with reports suggesting Coventry and Fulham F.C. are battling for the midfielder’s signature following his revival at Luton Town F.C..
However, an even bigger attacking target may now have emerged.
According to reports, Coventry have opened talks over a move for Loïs Openda following his difficult spell with Juventus F.C..
The Belgian forward is expected to become a permanent Juventus player due to a £35 million obligation clause, but the Italian giants are reportedly open to selling him almost immediately after an underwhelming period in Turin.
That situation could create a major opportunity for Coventry to negotiate a reduced-price deal for a striker many believe possesses elite-level quality despite his recent struggles.
The move has also alerted Ipswich, who may now find themselves competing directly with Coventry for Openda’s signature.
For Coventry supporters, comparisons with former hero Gyökeres are already beginning to emerge. The Swedish striker became one of the Championship’s most feared forwards during his time at the club, scoring 38 league goals across the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns before earning a high-profile move away.
Openda is now being viewed by some as the type of explosive attacking signing capable of filling that void and helping Coventry survive in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Ipswich are also believed to view the Belgian as a player capable of making the difference between survival and relegation next season.
Although Openda’s stock has dipped following his Juventus struggles, both promoted clubs reportedly see this summer as the ideal moment to strike for a player who previously showcased his talent at RB Leipzig and still possesses the quality to become a major success in England.
