strong fan-style tone:

The controversy surrounding Celtic’s dramatic title-clinching victory over Hearts may officially be settled, but that has done little to silence the ongoing fallout after the Scottish FA released audio and a statement defending the officials’ actions at Celtic Park.

In a move that many Celtic supporters believe completely dismantles Hearts’ complaints, the Scottish FA published key audio from the closing moments of Saturday’s Premiership decider.

The footage and communication between officials appeared to confirm what many had already believed — that referee Don Robertson ended the match correctly after consultation with the officiating team, including the fourth official and VAR headquarters.

The release came after continued criticism from Heart of Midlothian F.C. regarding how the game concluded following the late scenes sparked by Callum Osmand’s dramatic title-winning goal.

The governing body clarified that match officials collectively agreed to bring proceedings to an end once the allocated additional time had passed, rejecting suggestions that the contest had been ended improperly. According to the Scottish FA, the clock had already moved beyond the indicated stoppage time when the final decision was made.

Osmand’s stoppage-time strike effectively secured the title for Celtic, and the celebrations that followed naturally consumed precious seconds. With only moments left on the clock, few inside the stadium appeared surprised when the referee signalled the end of the game shortly afterwards.

The released audio reportedly highlighted that the match was ended after more than the minimum additional time had been played. It also suggested concerns around player safety and the practical reality of restarting the game were considered during discussions between officials.

There was further attention placed on comments involving Hearts manager Derek McInnes, with suggestions in the audio that there had been acknowledgement from the Hearts bench regarding ending the game under the circumstances.

For many Celtic supporters, the footage and statement reinforced the belief that the title was won fairly and that the result itself should never have been under dispute. Celtic had fought back during the match and ultimately secured a dramatic 3-1 victory to clinch yet another Scottish Premiership crown.

The debate, however, has extended beyond the pitch. Some Celtic voices have criticised sections of mainstream media coverage in the days following the match, arguing that too much focus was placed on controversy surrounding the pitch invasion and officiating, rather than the football itself or Celtic’s achievement.

Interim boss Martin O’Neill has also spoken publicly during the fallout, defending the club while acknowledging that any proven wrongdoing involving supporter behaviour should be taken seriously.

The Scottish FA’s official statement explained that senior figures, including Chief Governance Officer Gary Booth, Head of Refereeing Willie Collum and VAR Manager Martin Atkinson, reviewed the relevant footage with Hearts representatives present earlier in the week.

According to the governing body, the decision to make the audio public came after Hearts continued to challenge the circumstances surrounding the ending of the match, prompting officials to provide additional transparency over what happened in the final moments.

While the debate is unlikely to disappear entirely, the Scottish FA’s intervention appears intended to draw a line under one of the most controversial endings to a Premiership season in recent memory.
