Rob Edwards reveals how he discovered Wolves had sacked him

Rob Edwards has opened up about the unexpected circumstances surrounding his departure from Wolves, revealing that social media was where he first came across reports that his time at Molineux was over.

The former player and manager returned to Wolves in November 2025, taking charge of a team that was already in serious danger of relegation. However, his arrival did little to change the club’s fortunes initially, with their place in the relegation battle looking increasingly difficult to escape.

By the turn of the year, Wolves were facing the prospect of a miserable campaign, and avoiding an unwanted place in the history books had become one of their main concerns.

Although the team showed some improvement during the early part of the new year under Edwards, their performances towards the end of the season failed to convince a significant section of the fanbase. As a result, there were doubts about whether he was the right man to oversee the next stage of the club’s rebuilding process.

Despite the criticism, there was an expectation that Edwards would remain in charge. Wolves had backed him in the transfer market only months earlier, and many would have anticipated that he would be given an opportunity to reshape the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Instead, the club made the surprising decision to part company with the Welshman several weeks after the season had concluded, subsequently appointing Cesar Peixoto as his replacement.

The timing of the announcement made the situation even more unexpected. Wolves had recently completed moves for Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez, with Edwards reportedly playing an important role in securing the right-back’s arrival.

Speaking on The Managers podcast, Edwards explained how he learned that his position at the club was under threat, admitting that he first became aware of the situation through messages and social media posts while enjoying a holiday in Greece.

He revealed that the club had been working behind the scenes to complete the deal for Jimenez, with the news of the signing reaching him just days before the reports about his own departure emerged.

Edwards explained that he had been pleased with the progress made in the transfer market, particularly after Wolves managed to get Trippier’s deal over the line.

However, his holiday took an unexpected turn when he woke up to numerous messages on his phone. One of his children had also asked his wife whether she had seen the reports circulating online.

It was then that the situation became clear, with Edwards confirming that social media was effectively his first source of information about the decision to sack him.

His comments have offered a revealing insight into how abruptly his time at Molineux came to an end, particularly given the work that had recently been done to strengthen the squad.

Wolves hierarchy face questions over Rob Edwards’ departure

While Edwards’ revelation may raise questions about the way Wolves handled his dismissal, the former manager was unlikely to receive widespread sympathy from supporters who had grown frustrated with the team’s performances.

His relationship with sections of the fanbase had deteriorated towards the end of the campaign, making his future a subject of debate even before the club eventually made its decision.

Nevertheless, the circumstances surrounding his departure are likely to attract criticism, especially if the reports about how he discovered the news accurately reflect the communication between him and the club.

The decision to dismiss a manager who had recently been involved in transfer planning inevitably raises questions about the club’s long-term strategy and whether there was a clear direction behind its recruitment and managerial decisions.

Edwards’ admission has now added another layer to an already surprising episode at Molineux, with the manner of his departure likely to remain a talking point among Wolves supporters.
