West Ham United manager Nuno Espirito Santo has addressed the growing calls for his dismissal after the Hammers suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat against West Bromwich Albion at the London Stadium on Saturday.

The result made it two consecutive home defeats for West Ham, who had already fallen to a 3-2 loss against Southampton the previous week. With another promotion rival leaving East London with all three points, frustration among the home supporters continued to grow.

West Ham were hoping to bounce back from their defeat to Southampton, but their afternoon got off to a difficult start when Felix Horn Myhre gave West Brom the lead in the 20th minute.

Jarrod Bowen briefly lifted the mood inside the London Stadium, bringing the hosts level nine minutes later with his ninth goal of the campaign.

However, West Ham struggled to maintain their momentum after the break. Jimmy-Jay Morgan restored West Brom’s advantage just three minutes into the second half before Callum Styles added a third in the 72nd minute to secure victory for the visitors.

The defeat sparked anger among sections of the West Ham support, with some fans directing chants of ‘sacked in the morning’ towards Nuno. West Brom’s travelling supporters also joined in with taunts aimed at the Portuguese coach, who previously spent four years managing their Black Country rivals, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Speaking after the match, Nuno acknowledged that the situation would only improve if his team started delivering better results.

Speaking to The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas, the West Ham manager admitted that the criticism was part of the reality of football.

He explained that winning matches was the only way to change the atmosphere, pointing to the dropped points against Burnley and defeats against Charlton Athletic, Southampton and West Brom.

Nuno insisted that improving performances and getting results on the board remained the only solution, expressing his belief that supporters would get behind the team again once results began to improve.
