Rangers legend identifies signing that could solve major weakness
He believes bringing in Ferguson—who could be on the move this summer—would inject some much-needed Scottish grit into the squad.
His remarks follow criticism from Ally McCoist, who described the team as “mentally weak” after their defeat to Heart of Midlothian F.C.. McCoist also raised concerns about the shortage of Scottish players in the side, suggesting that a move for Ferguson would send a strong message about the club’s identity.

He emphasised that Ferguson would bring not only quality but also a deep understanding of what the club represents, something he feels has been missing in recent years.
Echoing that sentiment, Ian Durrant pointed out that modern football has seen a decline in local representation. Reflecting on his own playing days, he noted that squads used to be filled with Scottish talent, with clubs consistently recruiting the best players from within the country.
He has struggled to hold down a regular place in the side, which has raised a few eyebrows.
Ally McCoist suggested that a move could be on the horizon, noting that a player of his quality is bound to attract interest.
McCoist admitted the situation may come down to valuation, adding that he is unsure what Bologna F.C. 1909 would demand, but expects several clubs to be monitoring Lewis closely.
He also reiterated concerns about the limited number of Scottish players in the current squad, hinting that the balance within the team has shifted too far in recent years.
Former teammate Ian Durrant echoed that view, pointing out that modern football has changed significantly. Reflecting on his own era, he recalled how squads were once packed with Scottish talent, with clubs consistently recruiting the best players from within the country.
