Rangers icon Ian Durrant has called on the club to ensure any new signings this summer are deserving of representing the badge, as preparations continue for a major rebuild at Ibrox.

With Rangers expected to be active in the transfer market following a number of departures, Durrant believes the club must focus on bringing in players capable of meeting the demands and expectations that come with playing for the Glasgow giants.

The former midfielder, who made 346 appearances for Rangers during his playing career, stressed the importance of quality recruitment as Danny Röhl and his backroom staff look to strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking about the possibility of adding more Scottish talent to the group, Durrant admitted it would be ideal to establish a stronger homegrown presence at the club, provided the right players are available and of the required standard.

He explained that while supporters would welcome more Scottish signings, recruitment should ultimately be based on ability, with the manager and coaching team expected to identify players who can genuinely improve the squad.

Durrant also acknowledged the scale of the task facing Rangers this summer, particularly after the club saw several loan players depart, leaving gaps that now need to be filled.

As a result, he believes Rangers’ recruitment team must be meticulous in their approach, insisting that any incoming players should prove they are worthy of pulling on the famous blue shirt.
