Phil Parkinson criticises Wrexham A.F.C. errors after 5–1 defeat to Southampton
Southampton extended their impressive run of form with a dominant 5-1 victory over Wrexham A.F.C., moving ahead of them into the Championship play-off places.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson expressed frustration after his side’s costly mistakes led to their heaviest defeat of the season, dropping them out of the top six. Meanwhile, Southampton climbed into sixth, now sitting two points clear with a game in hand.

The visitors made a fast start, taking control early as Kuryu Matsuki and Flynn Downes struck within the opening 22 minutes. Josh Windass briefly gave Wrexham hope before halftime, but Cyle Larin restored Southampton’s two-goal advantage shortly after the break.
Late goals from Ross Stewart and Finn Azaz sealed a comprehensive win, underlining Southampton’s dominance throughout the match.
Parkinson admitted his side were punished for their errors, noting that such performances have been rare during his tenure. Southampton created numerous chances, registering 16 shots and repeatedly testing the goal, highlighting their attacking strength.
The Saints are now unbeaten in 13 league matches and are firmly in contention for promotion, with momentum on their side as the season progresses.
Head coach Tonda Eckert credited his team’s energy and strong start, emphasising the importance of early control and disciplined structure, which ultimately allowed them to take full command of the game.
