Paul Smyth Sends Heartfelt Message to QPR Fans Over Their Unwavering Support
Paul Smyth sends message to QPR fans after impressive Derby County victory
Paul Smyth has praised the passionate support of Queens Park Rangers fans following their convincing 4-1 win over Derby County at Loftus Road on Wednesday night.
Julien Stéphan’s side entered the Championship clash looking to end a frustrating run of five games without a victory, having drawn their previous four matches. With Derby also experiencing difficulties, QPR had a valuable opportunity to get their campaign back on track, and they took full advantage with an impressive display.

The hosts made their intentions clear from the opening whistle, putting Derby under immediate pressure and establishing a two-goal advantage within the first 22 minutes. Their aggressive approach proved too much for the visitors to handle as QPR produced an outstanding first-half performance.
Smyth recognises the impact of QPR supporters
It was another encouraging evening for Smyth, who continued to demonstrate his importance to Stéphan’s team with a hardworking performance.
The Northern Ireland international has not always enjoyed universal support from the QPR faithful, but his contributions this season have given fans plenty of reasons to appreciate his qualities.
His energy, relentless pressing and ability to carry the ball forward have made him a valuable asset. The 29-year-old has also improved his attacking output, scoring three goals in nine appearances during the opening stages of the campaign.
Following the victory, Smyth was quick to acknowledge the supporters’ contribution, highlighting the atmosphere at Loftus Road and the encouragement they provided as the team started the match on the front foot.
Speaking to the club’s media team, he said:
“I’d like to thank the fans again. The crowd were fantastic, encouraging us to keep doing what we did.
“I think the boys, from the start, from the first 15 minutes, put it on them, and we scored two goals.”
His comments reflected the positive relationship developing between the players and supporters, with the home crowd helping to create an atmosphere that energised the team throughout the contest.
QPR have reasons to believe in a promotion challenge
The victory over Derby represented an important response after QPR’s recent sequence of draws had slowed their momentum.
Their performance also followed an encouraging outing against West Ham United the previous week, suggesting that Stéphan’s players are continuing to build confidence as the season progresses.
QPR’s position in the Championship table further underlines their promising start. Sitting fifth after the Derby victory, with just one defeat in their opening nine league matches, the West London club have demonstrated that they can compete with some of the division’s strongest sides.
Smyth has played an important role in that progress, and his improving form will be another positive for the manager.
Although the Championship campaign remains in its early stages, QPR will take considerable encouragement from their recent performances and their ability to respond to a difficult spell.
If they can maintain the intensity displayed against Derby and continue turning performances into victories, the R’s will have genuine reasons to believe that a promotion challenge is within their reach this season.
