Léo Scienza and Adam Armstrong break silence after key Southampton F.C. player’s farewell
Southampton F.C. are gearing up for another season in the Championship after missing out on promotion, and changes within the squad are already underway.
Veteran goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has confirmed his departure from the club after spending a decade at St Mary’s. The 36-year-old shared an emotional farewell, saying he is ready for a new challenge while thanking the club, supporters, and teammates for the memories.

McCarthy reflected on his time at Southampton, highlighting how special the journey had been for both him and his family, adding that they will continue supporting the club.
His announcement drew reactions from teammates, including Léo Scienza and Adam Armstrong, who responded with messages of support on social media.
McCarthy made seven Championship appearances last season and played an important backup role when called upon. With Daniel Peretz now expected to lead in goal, Southampton will be looking at their options for depth between the posts.
Despite his exit, McCarthy leaves with strong memories, including helping the Saints secure promotion under Russell Martin, and remains a respected figure among the Southampton support
