John Souttar criticised following incident in Rangers’ win vs Dundee United
Souttar under fire despite Rangers win over Dundee United
Rangers FC may have secured a 4-2 win over Dundee United, but John Souttar has come under heavy criticism for his performance.
Manager Danny Röhl opted to start Souttar ahead of Emmanuel Fernandez, who had just returned from international duty with Nigeria. However, that decision raised eyebrows as Souttar struggled defensively.

The key moment came when Amar Fatah found the net for Dundee United. Souttar was criticised for allowing the attacker inside too easily and reacting too slowly, leaving goalkeeper Jack Butland exposed.
Fan account Four Lads Had a Dream didn’t hold back, describing the defending as “awful” and questioning the decision-making in the build-up to the goal.
In contrast, Fernandez—who impressed during the international break and even got on the scoresheet—was notably absent from the starting lineup, something many supporters found surprising.
Souttar’s display has only intensified calls for Fernandez to return to the starting XI, especially with another important fixture on the horizon.
Despite the victory, the defensive concerns remain—and fans will be watching closely to see how Röhl responds.
