Jack Wilshere stance emerges after Leicester City make contact

Luton Town manager Jack Wilshere has reportedly turned down an approach from League One rivals Leicester City, choosing instead to remain committed to the long-term project at Kenilworth Road.

According to reports, Leicester made contact with the former Arsenal midfielder following the departure of Gary Rowett as the Foxes continue their search for a new manager after relegation from the Championship.

However, Wilshere is said to have rejected the opportunity, preferring to stay with Luton after only taking charge of the Hatters in October.

The 34-year-old has quickly built an impressive reputation in his first permanent managerial role. After replacing Matt Bloomfield with Luton sitting 11th in League One, Wilshere guided the club to within a single point of the play-off places while also delivering success in the EFL Trophy.

His impact was particularly notable toward the end of the campaign, with Luton winning six of their final seven league matches to finish strongly.

Wilshere had previously been linked with the role after reportedly beating Richie Wellens to the Luton job and had already gained experience in interim management during a spell at Norwich City in 2025.

Leicester, meanwhile, are now expected to turn their attention elsewhere after failing to persuade Wilshere to move to the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes are rebuilding after a disastrous campaign that ended in back-to-back relegations and a 23rd-place finish in the Championship. Financial issues also played a role in their struggles, with Leicester beginning the season under the weight of a six-point deduction.

Former Rangers boss Russell Martin is now believed to be the leading contender for the vacancy.

Back at Luton, Wilshere has already shifted his focus fully toward preparations for the 2026/27 campaign as the club targets an immediate return to the Championship.

Several players have already returned for off-season conditioning work ahead of official pre-season, reflecting Wilshere’s demanding standards. The Luton boss has made clear his ambition for the Hatters to become the fittest and hardest-working side in the division.

The club are also preparing for a training camp in Spain, where they will face Saudi Pro League side Al Kholood, alongside pre-season fixtures against Hitchin Town, Barnet and Go Ahead Eagles as Wilshere looks to build momentum for his first full season in charge.
