Insider reveals Josh Windass stance as Rangers transfers hang in the balance

Josh Windass is reportedly open to the idea of returning to Rangers this summer, with fresh comments from broadcaster Simon Jordan suggesting the former Ibrox midfielder has been considering a move back to Glasgow.

Windass, who is currently under contract at Wrexham, has been linked with Rangers in recent weeks amid reports that former boss Danny Rohl was keen to reunite with the playmaker following their time together at Sheffield Wednesday. However, any move appeared to stall after Wrexham rejected an initial loan approach.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan revealed he recently spoke with Windass while travelling to the World Cup and hinted that a return to Rangers had been on the player’s mind.

“I was talking to Josh Windass on the plane,” Jordan said. “There was a perception that he might have been considering an opportunity to go back to Rangers.”

Pressed further on the claim, Jordan added that he did not want to speak on Windass’ behalf given the midfielder’s contractual situation at Wrexham.

The uncertainty surrounding Rangers’ managerial position could now have a significant impact on any potential deal. With Derek McInnes expected to replace Rohl at Ibrox, it remains unclear whether the incoming boss will pursue a move for Windass or prioritise other areas of the squad.

Right-back remains one of Rangers’ most pressing concerns following the departures of James Tavernier and Max Aarons. Westerlo defender Bryan Reynolds has emerged as a target, but no formal bid has yet been submitted. Reports suggest several Belgian clubs are also monitoring the American international, meaning Rangers could face competition if they decide to accelerate their interest.

Another potential complication concerns Vaclav Cerny. The winger has been linked with a surprise return to Ibrox due to changes in Turkish football regulations. His club, Besiktas, must comply with new foreign-player restrictions, which could force them into difficult squad decisions ahead of the new season.

With managerial changes and transfer priorities still being finalised, Rangers face a crucial period as they look to reshape their squad ahead of the new campaign.
