Four Rangers players are doubts for the season opener against Dundee United, raising concerns for the Ibrox side

Rangers could be forced to start their season without at least four key players when they face Dundee United on the opening day.

The Ibrox side travel to Tannadice on 31 July as they begin a new campaign with hopes of closing the gap on Hearts and Celtic after last season’s finish. There is added attention on Derek McInnes’ first competitive game in charge, but selection issues could overshadow the build-up.

Findlay Curtis, John Souttar, Lawrence Shankland and Liam Kelly are among those who could miss out, depending on how international commitments unfold.

The situation is linked to Scotland’s potential progress at the World Cup, with FIFA rules requiring players to receive a mandatory 21-day break after the season ends. If Scotland reach the latter stages of the tournament, it could impact recovery and pre-season schedules, leaving some players unavailable for the curtain-raiser.

Rangers will be hoping circumstances fall in their favour, but there is still a scenario where several squad members are not fit or available for the opening fixture.
