Ibrox overhaul: Rangers F.C. line up investment amid mass exits

Rangers F.C. are bracing for a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2026–27 season, with more than 10 players potentially leaving Ibrox.

Several first-team players — including Liam Kelly, Kieran Wright, Ben Davies, Leon King and James Tavernier — are nearing the end of their contracts and could depart unless extensions are agreed. Meanwhile, a number of loanees such as Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga, Derek Cornelius, Jayden Meghoma, Andreas Skov Olsen and Mikey Moore are also expected to return to their parent clubs.

The situation has raised concerns over past recruitment decisions under former sporting director Kevin Thelwell, whose strategy of heavy spending and multiple loan deals has left the club facing a difficult rebuild.

Significant financial backing will now be required to reshape the squad, with Andrew Cavenagh having already overseen a £16 million share issue. However, further investment is likely to be needed if Rangers are to compete at the top level next season.

Manager Danny Röhl faces several key priorities in the transfer window, with the right-back position emerging as a major concern. With Tavernier and Aarons both potentially departing, Dujon Sterling could be left as the only natural option in that role.

Other players, including José Cifuentes, Óscar Cortés and Danilo, are expected to return, but their long-term futures at the club remain uncertain.

With a large-scale clearout looming, Rangers are expected to prioritise strengthening key areas—particularly in defence—as they look to rebuild a squad capable of challenging for major honours under Röhl.
