Celtic appear to be on the verge of completing a deal for Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan, with reports suggesting the Scottish champions have agreed a fee below the player’s reported £10.4 million release clause.

The 24-year-old Egypt international enhanced his reputation during this summer’s World Cup in North America, attracting plenty of attention with his performances. Celtic had already been monitoring Hassan before he impressed during Egypt’s last-16 encounter with Argentina.

Now, negotiations appear to have reached a decisive stage. Spanish publication La Nueva España reports that an agreement is close, with only the final details believed to be outstanding before the transfer can be officially completed.

Celtic are keen to have Hassan available as soon as possible, particularly with their Champions League play-off against LASK approaching. The first leg is scheduled to take place at Celtic Park on Wednesday, August 19, before the return fixture in Austria the following week.

There is reportedly even a possibility that Hassan could be registered in time to feature in the European tie. Celtic’s latest proposal has been accepted by the relevant parties despite the fee falling below the winger’s reported £10 million-plus release clause.

Hassan’s preference for continuing his career in Europe has also helped Celtic’s pursuit. The winger is understood to have rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, choosing instead to remain in European football.

For Oviedo, the transfer would provide an important financial boost. The Spanish club are attempting to strengthen their finances following relegation from La Liga last season and need to generate significant income from player sales.

Oviedo have already invested in several new additions during the current transfer window, meaning a major outgoing transfer could be necessary to help them comply with Spain’s salary-cap regulations and register their squad without restrictions.

Club sporting director David Fernandez recently acknowledged that Oviedo must remain flexible regarding the futures of their players. He explained that the club would attempt to retain its best performers while accepting that certain departures may be necessary as part of their financial planning.

With Celtic pushing to finalise the Hassan transfer and Oviedo needing to raise funds, the circumstances appear favourable for both sides. The remaining negotiations are expected to focus on completing the final formalities before the winger can make his move to Glasgow.
