Henrik Pedersen sends blunt message after Sheffield Wednesday’s defeat to Notts County
Henrik Pedersen has questioned Sheffield Wednesday’s performance after admitting his players failed to deliver the intensity and physical commitment required during their 2-0 defeat to Notts County.
The Owls suffered a disappointing night at Meadow Lane on Tuesday, with Daniel Kanu putting the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the first half before Darius Lipsiuc added a second goal late in the game.
The setback has increased the pressure on Pedersen, whose side have managed just one victory in their last five league matches.

Sheffield Wednesday have collected 18 points from their opening 10 fixtures and currently sit sixth in the table. However, they have played one more game than seventh-placed Oxford United, leaving little room for further slip-ups.
The evening became even more difficult for Pedersen when Di’Shon Bernard was forced off with an injury during the opening stages. His replacement, Gabriel Otegbayo, subsequently conceded the penalty that allowed Notts County to take the lead.
Jamal Lowe’s dismissal in the 50th minute added to Wednesday’s problems, leaving the visitors with an uphill battle in the second half.
Despite the red card, Pedersen was particularly unhappy with his side’s display before the break. The Wednesday boss felt his players lacked the energy and determination needed to compete, pointing to their struggles in individual battles and their inability to win second balls.
Speaking after the match in comments shared on the club’s official X account, Pedersen made it clear that the performance fell below his expectations.
He explained that competing successfully in League One requires strong fundamentals, including intensity, winning duels and reacting quickly to loose balls. In his view, Notts County showed greater strength in those areas during the opening half.
Pedersen described the result and first-half performance as deeply disappointing, insisting that his team’s standards were not good enough on the night.
Sheffield Wednesday had enjoyed a promising start to the campaign, but their recent struggles have frustrated supporters and raised questions about the manager’s position.
With the club hoping to secure an immediate return to the Championship, Pedersen faces growing pressure to turn results around and get his side back on track.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters react to Pedersen’s criticism
Pedersen’s post-match assessment has done little to ease the frustration among sections of the Wednesday support.
Following the defeat, several fans reportedly voiced their dissatisfaction with the team’s performance and called for the Danish manager to be dismissed.
With results becoming increasingly inconsistent, the coming fixtures could prove important in determining whether Pedersen can regain supporters’ confidence and maintain Sheffield Wednesday’s promotion ambitions.
