Fresh update emerges over Kelechi Iheanacho’s Celtic future
There is still no official announcement regarding Kelechi Iheanacho‘s future at Celtic F.C., but a former Hoops striker believes recent rumours suggest the Nigerian forward could remain at Parkhead.
Iheanacho made a significant contribution to Celtic’s Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup-winning campaign, scoring six goals in the final nine matches to help the team finish the season strongly. His timely contributions highlighted his ability to influence important games under manager Martin O’Neill.

The 29-year-old became a free agent after Celtic chose not to activate the option to extend his contract by another year. Since then, he has continued to attract interest, with reports linking him to a possible move to Bursaspor. However, there has been little progress on that front in recent weeks.
Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has now added to the speculation, revealing that while visiting Ireland he heard claims that Iheanacho had already agreed to stay with the Scottish champions. McAvennie stressed that he was only repeating what he had been told and did not present it as confirmed information.
His comments have nevertheless fuelled fresh optimism among supporters who would welcome the striker’s return. Iheanacho’s impact as a substitute during the closing stages of last season demonstrated the value of having an experienced attacker capable of changing matches from the bench.
Celtic have already confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will remain with the club next season, while a deal for Colombian forward Camilo Duran is reportedly moving closer, with a medical said to be scheduled.
Should Iheanacho eventually agree fresh terms, Celtic would retain a player who has already proven his worth in high-pressure situations. Until then, fans continue to wait for official confirmation.
Attention now shifts to Celtic’s opening pre-season fixture against Shelbourne F.C., where O’Neill will begin preparations for the new campaign and several young players will hope to impress.
