Fresh Rangers stance on Fares Ghedjemis emerges as transfer hope grows

Rangers have adopted a fresh stance in their pursuit of Frosinone winger Fares Ghedjemis after encountering further frustration in negotiations.

The Light Blues remain keen to strengthen their attacking options after Derek McInnes was left disappointed by Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League qualifying defeat to Jagiellonia Bialystok. While summer signing Daisuke Yokota made his debut, Rangers are still targeting another wide player before the transfer window closes.

Ghedjemis has been one of Rangers’ priority targets in recent weeks, but a deal has proved difficult to negotiate.

The Ibrox club initially saw a reported £6 million bid rejected before returning with an improved offer worth around £8 million. However, Frosinone have continued to hold firm on their valuation of the 23-year-old Algerian, with interest from Celtic, Monaco and several other European clubs strengthening their position.

Rangers cool Ghedjemis interest

According to The Rangers Review, Rangers have now cooled their interest in Ghedjemis after failing to make a breakthrough in talks with the Serie B outfit.

Rather than continue pursuing a deal that appears increasingly difficult to complete, McInnes and the Rangers hierarchy have shifted their focus to PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech.

The Moroccan wide man has emerged as a leading alternative, with Rangers understood to be in active discussions after submitting a reported £6 million offer.

The Ibrox club remain hopeful of reaching an agreement with PSV as they look to provide McInnes with another attacking option before the transfer deadline.

While a move for Ghedjemis has not been ruled out completely, Rangers’ attention is currently centred on Driouech, with negotiations continuing in the hope of securing a breakthrough.
