Fresh Details Surface on Celtic’s Remaining Summer Recruitment Plans

Celtic are expected to strengthen several areas of their squad before the summer transfer window closes, with a left-back and goalkeeper still on the club’s recruitment agenda.

According to SunSport, the Scottish champions remain interested in adding players in both positions.

However, bringing in a central midfielder and a winger is currently viewed as the club’s immediate priority as Martin O’Neill prepares his side for a crucial UEFA Champions League play-off against LASK.

The Hoops welcome the Austrian champions to Celtic Park on 19 August before travelling for the return leg six days later, leaving the manager with limited time to integrate any new arrivals into the squad ahead of the two-legged encounter.

Midfield remains one of Celtic’s biggest focuses in the market. The club are continuing discussions over a move for Baur, although Paderborn have already rejected an offer believed to be in the region of £4 million and are standing firm on their valuation.

Celtic have also held talks regarding Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis, but a formal proposal has yet to be submitted.

Another wide attacker is also on O’Neill’s shopping list. Camilo Duran was deployed on the right flank during the opening league victory over Dundee, but the manager later acknowledged that the position does not get the best out of the Colombian.

As a result, Celtic continue to assess alternatives, with Farès Ghedjemis and Haissem Hassan among the players linked with a move to Glasgow. However, the transfer fees demanded by their respective clubs could complicate negotiations.

Defensive reinforcements are also being considered, particularly at left-back. Kieran Tierney is currently the only experienced natural option in that role, and his substitution against Dundee forced Alistair Johnston to switch across to the opposite flank.

The reshuffle highlighted the lack of depth available in the position.

O’Neill has already admitted the club are actively searching for another left-back, while also suggesting that the academy’s young defenders are not yet ready to shoulder regular first-team responsibilities.

Celtic are equally keen to increase competition between the posts following Kasper Schmeichel’s retirement. Although Viljami Sinisalo impressed on the opening day with several important saves, the club still intends to recruit another goalkeeper before the transfer deadline.

While additions at left-back and in goal remain part of Celtic’s plans, the club’s immediate attention is expected to stay on securing a midfielder and a winger before turning its focus to the remaining areas of the squad.
