Former Blackburn manager Mark Hughes releases statement after heartbreaking family news
Former Blackburn Rovers F.C. manager Mark Hughes has shared his heartbreak following the sudden passing of his son, Alex Hughes, at the age of 38.
Alex was serving as Player Recruitment Lead at Grimsby Town F.C. and had built a respected career in football recruitment, with previous roles at Manchester City F.C., Fulham F.C., Blackburn Rovers F.C., and TSV 1860 Munich.

In a statement, Mark Hughes and his wife Jill described themselves as devastated by the unexpected loss of their son, asking for privacy as the family mourns.
Grimsby Town also paid tribute, describing Alex as a highly respected and valued member of the club who played a key role in shaping recruitment strategy and supporting the first-team setup.
The club praised not only his work but also his character, remembering him as someone whose warmth, professionalism, and positive nature left a lasting impact on everyone around him.
Alex is survived by his wife Jessica and their two children, Sebastian and Leonardo.
