Ex-Hammer offers honest assessment of Jarrod Bowen’s future at West Ham

Former West Ham midfielder Robert Snodgrass believes Jarrod Bowen should remain at the London Stadium despite continued transfer links with Aston Villa this summer.

Villa have been frequently mentioned as one of the clubs interested in the England international, with manager Unai Emery reportedly a long-time admirer of Bowen. Following another strong campaign and the lure of UEFA Champions League football, the Midlands club could present an attractive option for several transfer targets.

However, Snodgrass, who represented both Aston Villa and West Ham during his playing career, believes Bowen’s future should remain in east London.

Reflecting on the speculation, Snodgrass praised Bowen’s performances and urged him to continue leading the Hammers.

“I think he had another excellent season despite where West Ham finished,” Snodgrass said. “He’s been the team’s standout player, and his numbers have been consistently impressive over the last three years.

“If I were Jarrod, I’d stay at West Ham. He’s the captain, the fans adore him, and signing a new long-term contract would demonstrate real loyalty. If the club can keep him and strengthen the squad with the right additions, it would send a strong message about their ambitions.”

Snodgrass is well placed to offer an opinion, having made 43 appearances for Aston Villa and 86 for West Ham during his career.

His comments will be welcomed by Hammers supporters, especially with Bowen continuing to prepare for the new season alongside his teammates at Rush Green, where he has looked fully focused in the club’s pre-season training sessions.

West Ham’s position throughout the summer has remained consistent, with club officials insisting there is no need to sell key players. Bowen continues to be viewed as a central figure in the club’s plans, although supporters are unlikely to feel completely at ease until the transfer window officially closes.
