Emmanuel Fernandez’s standout numbers emerge after Rangers draw with Dundee United
Emmanuel Fernandez’s outstanding stats highlight Rangers display against Dundee United
Emmanuel Fernandez produced one of the standout performances of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership opener, delivering an outstanding defensive display as Derek McInnes’ side battled to a 1-1 draw away to Dundee United.

Rangers fell behind after Lachlan Rose opened the scoring for the hosts, but Thelo Aasgaard’s powerful second-half strike rescued a point. The visitors were fortunate not to leave empty-handed, with goalkeeper Ivor Pandur denying Jesse Randall late on to preserve the draw.
While several new signings made their competitive debuts, it was Fernandez who stole the spotlight with an exceptional defensive performance.
The centre-back finished the match with an incredible 16 clearances, underlining his importance at the heart of the Rangers defence. Nine of those clearances came with his head as he consistently dealt with Dundee United’s aerial threat.
Fernandez also contributed an interception and three ball recoveries, while showing confidence in possession by completing a successful dribble.
His influence was not limited to defensive duties either, with the 24-year-old creating a goalscoring opportunity to cap an impressive all-round display.
After initially finding life in the Scottish Premiership challenging following his arrival last summer, Fernandez has continued the strong form he showed during 2026 and appears to have established himself as a key figure in McInnes’ back line.
With a Europa League qualifier against Jagiellonia Bialystok on the horizon and Celtic still to play their league opener, Rangers will hope Fernandez can maintain that level of performance as they look to build momentum in the opening weeks of the campaign.
