Danny Röhl Shares What Andrew Cavenagh Told Him Before Leaving Rangers
Danny Röhl has opened up about the conversations he held with Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh before leaving Ibrox to take charge of RB Salzburg.
The German coach had been expected to oversee his first full season at Rangers after making an encouraging start to the summer, with Lawrence Shankland arriving as an early addition to the squad.
However, his plans changed when the RB Salzburg job became available following Daniel Beichler’s departure. Röhl ultimately accepted the opportunity to return to Austria, bringing his brief spell in Glasgow to an unexpected end.

Before finalising his exit, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss held discussions with Cavenagh and the club’s ownership group as Rangers continued their preparations for the new campaign.
Although some supporters were initially disappointed by his decision to leave, attention quickly shifted to Derek McInnes, who arrived from Hearts to replace him. The new manager has already generated optimism among the Ibrox faithful as Rangers look to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Röhl revealed he had encouraged Cavenagh and the club’s hierarchy to remain ambitious during the transfer window. He stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen the squad and building on the progress already made, believing Rangers had the foundations to compete for major honours.
His comments suggest he remained committed to the club’s long-term ambitions until the opportunity at RB Salzburg emerged, with his final discussions focused on ensuring Rangers continued moving in the right direction despite his departure.
