Danny Röhl begins Rangers rebuild with three exits lined up and struggling star facing uncertain future
A major summer rebuild appears to be underway at Rangers F.C., with head coach Danny Röhl reportedly preparing for significant changes to his squad ahead of the new campaign.
The 37-year-old endured a frustrating finish to the Scottish Premiership season, with Rangers losing four of their final five post-split matches and ending the campaign 10 points behind champions Celtic. The disappointing run also saw the club finish third in the league for the first time since 2018, increasing pressure on Röhl’s future at Ibrox.

Despite growing criticism from supporters, Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh publicly backed the German manager, insisting the board remains fully committed to him heading into next season. Cavenagh stressed that delivering trophies remains the club’s priority and argued Röhl requires both a refreshed squad and a complete pre-season to properly implement his ideas.
Following those comments, Rangers now appear ready to reshape the squad aggressively. Several departures are expected this summer, with defender Leon King, captain James Tavernier and reserve goalkeeper Kieran Wright all expected to move on once their contracts expire.
King, who spent last season on loan with Ayr United in the Championship, recently hinted at a future return to Ibrox, suggesting his exit feels more temporary than permanent.
Goalkeeper Liam Kelly, meanwhile, remains in negotiations over extending his stay despite his current deal nearing expiration.
Elsewhere, Rangers have reportedly chosen not to trigger the option to permanently sign Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen following an underwhelming loan spell from Wolfsburg. Signed in January with high expectations, the attacker struggled to establish himself in Scottish football, managing just one goal in nine appearances. Although Rangers held an option worth around £8 million, the club are now expected to send him back to Germany after limited involvement late in the season.
French defender Clinton Nsiala is also believed to be available for transfer if suitable offers arrive. After joining Belgian side Westerlo on loan midway through the season, his opportunities remained limited.
Several other players are also thought to have uncertain futures at the club. Ross McCausland, José Cifuentes, Danilo Pereira da Silva and Óscar Cortés reportedly spent time away on loan and are viewed as surplus to requirements.
Young midfielder Lyall Cameron, who temporarily joined Aberdeen for regular first-team football, also faces an uncertain future, with another loan move not ruled out.
Questions additionally remain over fringe figures including Nedim Bajrami, Oliver Antman, Bojan Miovski and Thelo Aasgaard as Rangers prepare for what could be one of the club’s biggest squad overhauls in years.
