BBC Reporter Spots Høgh’s Reaction After Martin O’Neill Drops Him
BBC Reporter Spots Kasper Høgh’s Reaction After Losing Celtic Starting Place
Kasper Høgh showed a positive response after being left out of Celtic’s starting line-up for the emphatic 7-1 victory over Hearts, with BBC reporter Kenny MacIntyre highlighting the striker’s reaction at half-time.
The Danish forward was among the players to congratulate Callum Osmand after the youngster scored twice on his first professional start for the Hoops.
Despite losing his place in Martin O’Neill’s starting XI, Høgh was spotted celebrating with his teammate in the tunnel during the interval, offering an encouraging indication of his attitude amid increased competition for places.
O’Neill’s decision to reshape his attacking line-up proved hugely successful, with Celtic establishing a commanding 5-1 lead before the break and eventually completing a seven-goal performance at Celtic Park.
For Høgh, watching from the sidelines as Osmand enjoyed a memorable afternoon could have been frustrating. However, MacIntyre was impressed by the striker’s response to being dropped.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound, the reporter pointed to Høgh’s behaviour as an encouraging sign following the manager’s selection decision.
He said: “Yeah, one thing I did like, because we spoke about Kasper, who had been dropped today, a big price tag and him a big reputation, how a player responds, I guess is a big thing.
“I watched him; he was right at the heart of the tunnel at half-time congratulating Callum Osmand, big high-fives, big smiles. So you’d like to think he’s responded very, very well that he did come on in the second half.”
Høgh makes an impact from the bench
Høgh eventually entered the action in the second half and made a contribution to Celtic’s final goal of the afternoon.
The striker supplied the pass for Benjamin Nygren to complete his brace, giving him a positive moment to take from an appearance in which he was unable to add to his own goal tally.
The Dane has not scored since his first-half hat-trick against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, leaving him with work to do as he looks to rediscover his scoring touch.
Meanwhile, Osmand’s impressive double and Camilo Duran’s display through the middle have strengthened the competition for Celtic’s attacking positions.
The youngster took his opportunity in spectacular fashion, giving O’Neill another option to consider as he assesses his forward line for upcoming fixtures.
Celtic’s attacking competition is intensifying
Høgh’s omission underlined the challenge facing Celtic’s attacking players, with strong performances increasingly important for anyone hoping to secure a regular starting role.
Osmand’s breakthrough performance has given the manager another reason to consider changes, while Duran has also strengthened his case for involvement in the central attacking position.
For Høgh, the immediate task is to turn his encouraging response into more decisive contributions in front of goal.
His willingness to celebrate Osmand’s achievement suggests he remains supportive of his teammates despite the personal disappointment of losing his place.
That attitude will be welcomed by Celtic, but the Danish striker will ultimately want to regain his starting position by delivering the goals that made him an important attacking option.
After the Hearts demolition, O’Neill has several forwards competing for limited places, creating a selection challenge that could benefit Celtic as the season progresses.
Høgh’s assist for Nygren was a useful contribution, but the next step is to rediscover his scoring form and demonstrate that he deserves to return to the starting line-up.
