Kim Min-su set to become Rangers’ 12th summer signing as striker search continues

Kim Min-su is on the verge of becoming Rangers’ 12th addition of the summer transfer window as the club close in on a deal for the young winger.

The Ibrox side have remained determined to strengthen their options out wide after their late attempt to sign PSV winger Couhaib Driouech collapsed. Manager Derek McInnes has been keen to increase competition for places among his wide players, including Daisuke Yokota, and Kim’s ability to operate on either flank makes him an attractive option.

Rangers are understood to have activated an £8.5million release clause in Kim’s contract and are prepared to pay the fee in a single instalment.

However, the Korean’s arrival is unlikely to mark the end of Rangers’ transfer business. The club are also looking for another striker following Youssef Chermiti’s ACL injury, which has left McInnes needing additional options in attack.

Kim Min-su’s Rangers contract details

Kim is predominantly a left-sided attacker but is also comfortable playing from the right.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Spanish second-tier club Andorra FC, where his performances earned positive reviews from both the media and those around the team.

Korean football expert Joel Kim recently highlighted the youngster’s qualities while speaking to The 4th Official.

He described Kim as a developing player with the technical ability, creativity and pace to justify his considerable valuation.

Rangers are now expected to complete the transfer, with reports indicating that Kim will sign a four-year contract that will keep him at Ibrox until 2030.

The remaining step before the move can be formally completed is for Kim to finish the outstanding sections of his medical. Once that is done, he will officially become a Rangers player.

The club’s hierarchy, led by Andrew Cavenagh and his colleagues, will then turn their attention towards strengthening the striker position.

Rangers receive update on striker target

Kevin Kelsy continues to feature on Rangers’ radar, with the Glasgow club understood to be in ongoing discussions with Portland Timbers over the 22-year-old Venezuelan forward.

Portland could demand more than £8.5million for Kelsy, however, meaning Rangers may have to decide whether they are willing to meet the MLS club’s asking price.

At the same time, another striker option appears to have slipped down Rangers’ list of priorities. The France Under-21 international had previously been regarded as a potential target, but his position in the club’s recruitment plans has now reportedly changed.
