Danny Röhl’s Rangers return admission may leave Ibrox fans with concerns

Danny Röhl has admitted he would not rule out managing Rangers again in the future, a comment that could divide opinion among the Ibrox support.

The German spent just eight months in charge before leaving for Red Bull Salzburg, ending a spell that began with optimism but concluded in disappointment after Rangers’ Scottish Premiership title challenge faded during the closing weeks of the season.

His departure paved the way for Derek McInnes, who has since taken over at Ibrox and begun reshaping the squad ahead of the new campaign. While there is renewed optimism surrounding the club, Röhl’s latest remarks have inevitably reignited discussion about his time in Glasgow.

Speaking to the Daily Record, the 37-year-old admitted he still feels there is unfinished business at Rangers.

“My goal is to win titles here at Red Bull Salzburg. But in football, you can never say never.

“A lot of what I feel about Rangers is that it’s a mission that was not completed. So why not?

“Now, I know what happens there and what you have to be.”

Although Röhl inherited a difficult situation following Russell Martin’s brief tenure, and initially earned praise for improving performances, many supporters were left frustrated by the way the season unraveled. His decision to leave for Salzburg at the first major opportunity also raised questions about his long-term commitment to the project.

There is little doubt over Röhl’s coaching pedigree. His previous work with Bayern Munich, the German national team and Sheffield Wednesday highlighted his tactical ability and potential as a young manager.

However, his latest comments may not be welcomed by every Rangers fan. With McInnes now leading a new era at Ibrox, many supporters will feel the focus should remain firmly on the present rather than speculation over a possible future return for his predecessor.

Whether Röhl ever gets another opportunity in Glasgow remains uncertain, but his admission has ensured the debate over his Rangers legacy is far from over.
