Why Martin O’Neill believes Camilo Duran is the right fit for Celtic
Martin O’Neill has shared further details about Camilo Duran as Celtic F.C. edge closer to completing the striker’s transfer.
Following Celtic’s 1-1 pre-season draw with Shelbourne F.C., O’Neill confirmed that the club’s medical team had travelled to meet Duran and finalise the remaining stages of the move. He also revealed that, provided everything goes as planned, the Colombian is expected to join the squad during their training camp in Portugal within the next day.

The Celtic manager believes the forward has qualities that can strengthen his attacking options, highlighting Duran’s physical presence and ability to retain possession. O’Neill noted that the squad requires additional reinforcements and expressed confidence that the 24-year-old can make a positive impact once he settles into the team.
Duran enjoyed an impressive campaign with Qarabağ FK last season, contributing 15 goals and 10 assists in all competitions. His performances in European football also caught attention after scoring five times in the Champions League.
Celtic have been negotiating the transfer for several days, with reports suggesting the overall package could reach around £6 million once performance-related bonuses are included. While O’Neill avoided discussing the financial details, his comments indicate the deal is now well advanced, with the focus shifting towards completing the medical checks and final paperwork.
The manager’s emphasis on Duran’s hold-up play suggests he views the Colombian as a striker capable of bringing greater physicality to Celtic’s attack while creating space and opportunities for teammates in the final third.
Unless there are any unexpected delays, Duran is expected to become Celtic’s first signing of the summer. Joining the squad in Portugal would give him valuable time to adapt alongside his new teammates before the competitive season begins.
