Derek McInnes has finally spoken about his departure from Hearts following their dramatic Scottish Premiership title collapse on the final day of the season against Celtic.

The new Rangers boss admitted that “frustration is justifiable” among Hearts supporters as he opened up on why he remained silent in the aftermath of the heartbreaking finish, where the Jambos were only minutes away from lifting the league trophy before late goals turned the game in Celtic’s favour.

Since then, McInnes says he struggled emotionally, describing himself as “angry and devastated” while trying to process what happened, which contributed to his decision not to speak earlier.

In an open letter to Hearts fans, he reflected on what he called a “special” year at Tynecastle, praising the players, staff, and supporters for their backing throughout the season. He also highlighted achievements including a record points total, strong derby results, and an unbeaten home record, despite the painful ending.

McInnes thanked everyone connected to the club and said he wished he had more time at Hearts, adding that he will always value his short spell in charge.
