Barry Ferguson opens up on Rangers frustration following Derek McInnes arrival
Rangers F.C. have officially confirmed the appointment of Derek McInnes, and former captain Barry Ferguson has welcomed the move.
McInnes’ switch from Heart of Midlothian F.C. was finalized this week, ending weeks of speculation after Danny Röhlwas confirmed as the new boss of RB Salzburg.
A lifelong Rangers supporter, McInnes now steps into one of the biggest jobs in Scottish football, becoming the club’s fifth permanent manager since Giovanni van Bronckhorst left in 2022.

Ferguson believes McInnes brings one important quality to the role — commitment. He pointed out that unlike some previous managers, McInnes will not view Ibrox as a temporary stop on the way to something bigger.
The former midfielder admitted he has grown frustrated seeing managers treat Rangers as a stepping stone, insisting the club should be seen as a destination rather than a pathway elsewhere.
Despite lacking a major trophy-winning record, McInnes’ impressive campaign with Hearts has convinced many Rangers fans that he could be the right fit. With strong ties to the club and a clear understanding of its expectations, there is growing hope he can bring stability and long-term progress at Ibrox.
